Doubling in size since last year, SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions) looks forward to a promising school year of preventing destructive decisions, according to Mrs. Sarah Moore, advisor.
"Our
membership has increased from around 15 active members last year, to 30 plus
this year. We feel that now it will be a lot easier to get things going, plus
we have a lot more input," said Mrs. Moore.SADD's goal is to help educate
the student body about making positive choices when it comes to destructive
decisions. The club is currently in the middle of red ribbon week (October 23-31),
encourageing students to participate in making positive decisions by wearing/keeping
a red ribbon as a reminder. Members
will also be going to Upton to speak with students about smoking hazards. "We
feel that we need to get into the middle school and teach kids about making
smart choices.
We think it is very important to stop the problem before it starts," said
SADD club secretary, Lisa Ballard, senior. The club is also thinking of positive
alternatives to partying. Although different ideas such as a Bingo Night and
a Gym and Swim Night have been discussed, nothing has been decided on.The officers
are seniors Liz Schmuhl, president; Barb Bentley, vice president; Lisa Ballard,
secretary; and Amanda Lechenet, treasurer. The advisors are Mr. Jim Berry and
Mrs. Moore.
